Mastering the Perfect Tea – Brewing Techniques

Brewing the perfect cup of tea is an art that requires a bit of knowledge and practice. Different types of tea have their own optimal brewing methods to bring out the best flavor and aroma.
For green tea, the water temperature is crucial. Generally, water around 70 – 80°C (160 – 180°F) is ideal. Boiling water can scald the delicate green tea leaves and make the tea taste bitter. Use a glass teapot or cup to brew green tea, as it allows you to appreciate the beautiful color of the tea leaves as they unfurl in the water. Brew for about 2 – 3 minutes for the first infusion, and subsequent infusions can be slightly longer.
Black tea, on the contrary, can be brewed with boiling water. Steep black tea for 3 – 5 minutes to extract its rich flavor and full – bodied taste. You can choose to drink black tea plain or add milk and sugar according to your preference. Using a porcelain or ceramic teapot can enhance the flavor of black tea.
Oolong tea is a bit more versatile in terms of brewing. The water temperature can be around 90 – 95°C (190 – 200°F). Oolong tea is often brewed using the Gongfu tea – making method, which involves using a small teapot and multiple short infusions. This method allows you to fully experience the complex flavors and long – lasting aftertaste of oolong tea.
Remember, the amount of tea leaves used also affects the strength of the tea. As a general rule, use about 2 – 3 grams of tea leaves per 150 – 200 milliliters of water.
